The popular long-running sports anime FIGHTING SPIRIT chronicles the experiences of boxing prodigy Magunochi Ippo. Ippo was an angry and aimless teenager until he met trainer Takamura who molded the boy's energy into an effective boxing technique. THE SPEED STAR is the ninth volume collecting the series and contains five episodes. In these episodes Ippo's plans to train at camp with the Kamogawa Gym crew are put on hold when his mother gets sick.
