When an "amnesia wind" blows away most of civilization the survivors have no choice but to revert to barbaric ways or rebuild what they once had. Years later a young man attempts to cross a now-savage American heartland. He has recovered much of humankind's lost knowledge and he searches for the source of the amnesia wind and for its creators. He then meets an enigmatic woman who inexplicably free of the storm's damage joins him on his treacherous journey. Their voyage soon turns worse after they learn a tireless killing machine has picked up their trail. This mechanical beast intends to obstruct their path--and in turn that of humanity's evolution!
